On March 7, 2002, the Armenian Embassy in Washington hosted a resentation of Nagorno Karabagh Arts and Music Festival Project (NK Arts). H.E. Arman Kirakossian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States, welcomed the participants of the evening and introduced the initiators of this unprecedented action that is designed to help Artsakh
re-emerge as a cultural center of the South Caucasus and positions Nagorno
Karabagh beyond the stereotypes of "conflict area".
Vardan Barseghian, NKR Representative in the United States made a brief overview of the project - fully supported by the Government of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic.
The historic town of Shushi has been selected as the official site for this biannual event, which aims to place Karabagh on the map of world festivals while also advocating an alternative model for economic development.
The program of the informative gathering included a short documentary film about the project presented by Ms. Neery Melkonian, founder and executive director of NK Arts, as well as an exihibit of exceptional paintings done by Karabagh children.
A Q&A session and a cocktail reception followed the presentation.
