ADOPTION OF ORPHANED CHILDREN FROM ARMENIA

Information Sheet: 

Only the Government of the Republic of Armenia is authorized to grant permission for adoption of orphaned child/children from the Republic of Armenia, on a case-by-case basis. Applicants need to submit certain documentation to the Embassy or the Consulate General of Armenia, depending on their state of residence (see table below):

To apply for permission to adopt orphaned children from Armenia, send, via any registered mail with a tracking number, the following documents to the Embassy or Consulate General:

 1.      Letter in the name of H.E. Andranik Markarian, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, requesting the adoption of an    orphaned child/children from Armenia, signed by both spouses.

2.      A photocopy of passport (for both spouses).

3.      “Notice of Favorable Disposition Concerning Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition,” issued by the US Immigration and Naturalization Service. 

4.      A Home Study, performed by a local adoption agency

5.      Description of personal residence along with the information on the members of the family (photographs may also be included).

6.      A letter from your place of employment verifying your position and salary (if applicable).

7.      At least three letters of recommendation from your place of employment and/or from leaders in the community.

8.      A letter from the IRS or a Certified Public Accountant on the financial status and solvency of the applicant (s).

9.      Health status reports from a physician (for both spouses).

10.   A copy of the marriage certificate, if married. If applicant is divorced or widowed, please provide a copy of the divorce agreement or spouse’s death certificate.

11.   If a child/children is not chosen at the moment, state the age, sex and number of children you wish to adopt (may be included at the letter to Prime Minister).

12.  A power-of-attorney (if the file could not be submitted to the Government Adoption Committee of the Republic of Armenia in person to start the process)

13.  Money order or check payable to the Embassy or Consulate General of Armenia for the verification of translation of the aforementioned documents into Eastern Armenian ($40.00 for each page of each document to be verified).

 NOTES:

1.      All documents must be translated into Eastern Armenian. The applicants are responsible for the arrangement of  translation themselves.

2.      All above documents must be separately legalized with an APOSTILLE (simplified certification by the Secretary of State in your state of residence), according to the provisions of the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, and submitted together as one file.

3.      The processing time at the Embassy or Consulate General of Armenia is approximately 7 business days.

4.      The paperwork verified by the Embassy or Consulate General of Armenia must be submitted in person or through an authorized person to the Government Adoption Committee of the Republic of Armenia (address: Republic Square, Government Building 1, Yerevan, Armenia, tel. (374-1) 52-25-70).

5.      The Governmental Adoption Committee of the Republic of Armenia in some cases may require other related documents.

6.      The paperwork is valid for one year after the certification at the Embassy or the Consulate General.

7.      The applicants must appear in person to the Government Adoption Committee at the final phase of the adoption process.

8.      The Government of the Republic of Armenia considers each case individually. The submission of the complete paperwork does not necessarily guarantee that the application will be approved.

9.      Processing time, requirements and fees are subject to change without notice.

10.  Please include in your original shipment a prepaid return envelope of any registered mail with a tracking number or a separate money order or check payable to the Embassy or Consulate General of Armenia in the amount of US$15.00, if overnight FedEx™Express service is requested.

11.  We regret for not being able to assume any responsibility for documents while in delivery by mail.

12.  US$30.00 will be assessed for any checks returned as unpaid.
